Canon City, Colorado · Restoring Since 2004
Larry Hill hand-restores vintage "canned ham" campers, riveted classics and fiberglass trailers in a one-man Colorado shop — from bare, weathered aluminum to a mirror finish, one trailer at a time. Clients ship from across the country.
The Shop
Larry Hill bought his first vintage camper in 2002 to pull behind his 1958 Chevrolet — and co-founded the Southwest Vintage Camper Association not long after. He opened Retro Restoration in 2004 and has been at the workbench ever since, personally restoring "canned ham" trailers from the '40s through the mid-'60s, along with riveted classics, fiberglass campers, pickup campers and the occasional vintage motorhome.
The shop has been featured in newspapers, magazines and the documentary Cars on Route 66 — but it's still Larry, one trailer at a time, in Canon City, Colorado.
This is where most restorations start.
What We Restore
Reskinning damaged aluminum, urethane automotive paint in original or custom colors, and mirror-polished aluminum — "nothing looks better than a mirror finish on a Spartan."
Hehr window rebuilds, releading, resealing, sagging door rebuilds, tail and marker lights, and reproduction logos in original styles.
Wood refinishing and structural repair, new insulation, custom laminate countertops and flooring, and professionally rebuilt upholstery.
Fresh and gray/black water systems, 12V/110V electrical, propane systems rebuilt to spec, and quiet modern retrofits — A/C, entertainment, microwaves — without losing the vintage look.
